Create a Lead Gen batch

Updated

Lead Gen turns a CSV file of businesses into a demo mini-site for each one. You upload the file, set the look and the language, check the rows, and confirm. The mini-sites are ready for you to show to each business.

Before you start

You need a plan with Lead Gen credits. A batch reserves one credit for each business when you confirm it, with a minimum of 8. Read how credits and limits work before you start a large batch.

Open Lead Gen in the sidebar and select New batch. The page walks you through three steps: Upload CSV, Batch defaults, and Review and confirm. The page saves your draft as you go, and Save and exit leaves the draft in the list so you can return to it.

Prepare the CSV file

The file is UTF-8 text of up to 1 MB, with a header row and 1 to 500 businesses. Commas and semicolons both work as the separator. In Excel, choose Save As, then CSV UTF-8.

Only the business name is required. Column names match without regard to capitals, spaces, or underscores, so businessName, business_name, and Business name all name the same column. Columns the page doesn't recognise are ignored, and the page lists them after it reads the file.

ColumnWhat it holds
businessNameRequired. The business's name, up to 100 characters.
phoneA phone number with 6 to 15 digits, kept as you type it.
emailAn email address.
addressA street address, up to 200 characters.
industryThe kind of business, up to 80 characters. A batch uses one industry.
logoUrlA web address to a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image.
primaryColorA colour such as #1D4D9A or #19A. An empty cell takes the batch colour.
backgroundThemelight or dark. An empty cell takes the batch background.
contactModeform or scheduler. The words schedule, booking, and survey also mean scheduler. An empty cell takes the batch default.

Select Download the sample CSV on the first step for a file that has every column.

Upload the file

Drag the file onto the page, or select Choose a file. The page reads the file and says how many rows it found. If the file can't be used, the page says why: the file isn't UTF-8, it is larger than 1 MB, it has no rows, it has more than 500 rows, or it has no business name column. Split a file with more than 500 rows into files of 500 rows or fewer, and upload each one as its own batch.

Select Continue to batch defaults. To use a different file later, select Replace file. The new file replaces the businesses, your corrections, and the rows you excluded, and the batch defaults stay.

Set the batch defaults

The defaults apply to every mini-site that has no value of its own in the CSV file.

  • Batch name. Only you see this name. It never appears on a mini-site.
  • Primary colour. Pick a palette colour or enter a hex value. Text colours adjust to keep the text readable.
  • Background. Light or dark.
  • Logo height. The height at which a logo shows, from 48 to 160 pixels. On screens narrower than 768 pixels the logo is at most 96 pixels tall.
  • Template. The page layout. A preview shows the header and the first section with your colour, background, and logo height.
  • Site language. Everything on the mini-sites is in this language: the text we write, the labels, the form, and the thank-you message. The languages are English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German, Italian, Romanian, and Turkish.
  • Contact section. Choose Form or Booking request for the rows that have no contactMode. Read what each one does.

Review and confirm

The last step lists every row. A counter above the table says how many rows the file has, how many are included, how many you excluded, and how many have errors.

  1. If any row has an error, the table opens on With errors. Each cell with a problem says what to enter, for example "Enter an email address like [email protected]." Correct the cell in place and press Enter, or clear the Include row checkbox to leave the row out. The batch can't start while an included row has an error.
  2. Choose the batch industry. When every included row names the same industry, the field starts with it. When the rows name more than one, the field starts empty and the page lists them, so you choose one. Each row keeps its own industry value in the export.
  3. Read the cost line. It says how many credits the batch reserves and how many credits you have left this cycle.
  4. Select Confirm and generate batch.

If the industry text isn't one we know, we match it to the closest industry when the batch starts. An industry we have no copy for gets general text that names no other trade.

What happens after you confirm

Confirm reserves the credits and opens the batch page. The page shows the stage the batch is in: preparing the batch, writing the page text, creating images, and publishing mini-sites. The percentage and the line under it update without a reload, and a screen reader announces each stage.

When the batch ends, the page says how many mini-sites are ready and how many credits were charged. Each ready row shows a demo link. A row that couldn't publish says so and isn't charged. Share, edit, and export the mini-sites.
