Sign in to WordPress admin

Updated

Every site is a WordPress site, and WordPress admin is where you change what the dashboard doesn't cover: form settings, plugins, and the fields of services, areas, and reviews. You sign in with a username and a password that we create for each site.

Find the sign-in details

The WP Admin section of the site's page lists the sign-in details. The build screen shows the same details when a build finishes.

  • WP Admin URL is the address of the site's WordPress admin. Select Copy to copy it.
  • WP Admin username is the name you sign in with. Select Copy to copy it.
  • WP Admin password is hidden. Select Show password to read it, Hide password to hide it again, or Copy password to copy it without showing it.

Only the workspace owner can see the password. Other members see the URL and the username, and the line "Only the workspace owner can see the WP Admin password." The page never contains the password until the owner asks for it, and we record each time someone shows or copies it. If the password doesn't load, the page says so and you can try again. If your browser refuses the copy, the page shows the password selected so you can copy it yourself.

  1. Select Open WP Admin in the WP Admin section or on the build screen. WordPress admin opens in a new tab.
  2. Enter the username and the password.
  3. Select Log In.

WordPress admin then shows its dashboard. The left menu has Pages, one item for each content type such as Services and Reviews, and Forms & Email.

Reset the password

The owner can set a different password when the current one is lost. If we don't have the site's password, the section says "We don't have this site's WP Admin password. Reset it to set a password you can see here."

  1. Select Reset password.
  2. Read the dialog titled "Reset the WP Admin password for" and the username. It says that we set a password and show it on the page, and that the current password stops working.
  3. Select Reset password in the dialog. Select Keep the current password to cancel.

The section reads "Resetting the password…" while we work. When it finishes, a message says "The WP Admin password for" the username "was reset", and the section shows the password row again. If it fails, the section says "The password wasn't reset, because our server didn't answer" and gives the support address.

A site that moved to another host doesn't show Reset password. The section says "This site runs at another host, which manages its WP Admin password." The details on the page are the ones the site had when it moved.

Keep the details private

Anyone with the username and the password can change the site. Share them only with people who need to edit the site, and don't paste them into a message or a document that others read.

Changes you make in WordPress admin

The editor and the Website Agent notice an edit made in WordPress admin. The site's history lists it with the badge WordPress. If you change something in WordPress admin that the Website Agent changed earlier, the agent asks you to confirm before it replaces your edit. Confirm deletions, links, and restores explains the card.
