Choose where form messages go
Updated
Every form on the site, the contact form, the booking form, and the request form, uses the same settings. When a visitor sends a form, the site emails the people you choose and can also send the form to a webhook.
Open the Forms & Email page
- Sign in to WordPress admin.
- Select Forms & Email in the left menu. It is the item with the envelope icon, below the content types.
A line at the top of the page says how the site sends form emails. The article Send site mail through your own SMTP explains each of those lines.
Set who gets the email
The Notification email section has these fields.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| To | The addresses that get each form email. Separate addresses with commas. Until you save the page, it holds the business email, or the WordPress administrator email when the business has none. |
| Reply-To | Where your reply goes. It holds {submission_email}, the address the visitor typed. When the visitor leaves the address empty, the email has no Reply-To. |
| From name | The name the email comes from. It holds the business name. |
| Subject | The subject line of each form email. It holds {form_name}: {submission_name}. |
| BCC | The addresses that get a hidden copy of each form email. Separate addresses with commas. |
| Custom From address | The address the email comes from when FluentSMTP has a connection. |
To and BCC together can hold 5 addresses. Until you save the page for the first time, the To address and the From name follow the business details of the site. After you save it, the fields hold what you saved. Select Save changes when you finish.
Placeholders you can use
The subject and the reply address accept these placeholders, and the confirmation email accepts them too.
{submission_name}is the name the visitor typed.{submission_email}is the email address the visitor typed.{form_name}is the name of the form.{business_name}is the business name.
Send each form to a webhook
Enter an https address in Webhook URL to send each form submission there as JSON. The data holds the form type, the page, the time, the language, and the fields.
A failed send is listed under Recent deliveries and doesn't change what the visitor sees. The site waits 5 seconds for an answer. It refuses an address that is private or invalid.
Check that it worked
Send the contact form on the site. Recent deliveries at the bottom of the Forms & Email page lists the last 20 forms with the time, the form, and the result of the email and of the webhook. A result reads Sent, Not set up, or Not sent followed by the reason, such as "the daily limit was reached".
