Buy hosting for a site
Updated
A site starts on a preview address that search engines don't index. Hosting puts the site in production on the business's own domain. You buy it for one site at a time, from the Hosting section of the site's page.
What hosting includes
- A custom domain with an automatic TLS certificate. Connect a custom domain shows the steps.
- Search engines can index the site on its domain.
- Nightly backups, kept for 14 days.
- The site keeps running if you cancel your plan.
Buy hosting
Only the workspace owner can buy hosting, because it adds a charge to the workspace's billing. A member who isn't the owner sees a line that says so.
- Open the site from Sites and find the Hosting section.
- If the section says "Hosting needs an active plan", select Choose a plan and choose one. Then return to the site.
- Under Billing, choose Monthly or Yearly.
- Select Buy hosting. Stripe Checkout opens.
- Pay in Stripe Checkout.
When you return, the section reads Setting up hosting. Hosting turns on as soon as we record the payment, usually within a minute. A bank payment can take more than a day to clear, and hosting turns on once it does.
If Stripe Checkout doesn't open, a message says you haven't been charged. Try again, and contact support if it keeps happening.
What it costs
| Billing | Price |
|---|---|
| Monthly | $10 a month |
| Yearly | $65 a year, which is $55 less than 12 monthly payments |
Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax. Stripe Checkout adds any tax that applies. Hosting is billed separately from your plan and isn't covered by the 14-day refund.
Cancel or resume hosting
Once the site is hosted, the section shows the billing, the renewal date, and what hosting includes. The workspace owner also sees Manage billing, which opens the billing portal, and Cancel hosting.
- Select Cancel hosting. A dialog asks for confirmation, and Keep hosting is the safe choice.
- Select Cancel hosting in the dialog.
Hosting continues until the end of the period you paid for, and the section reads "Hosting ends on" the date. Then the site goes back to its preview address, search engines don't index it, and nightly backups stop. A connected domain shows a "This site is unavailable" page for 30 days.
Before that date, the owner can select Resume hosting. The site then renews on the date shown.
If a payment fails
When a payment fails, the section shows Payment due next to the billing line. The workspace owner opens Manage billing to update the payment method.
When hosting has ended, a notice at the top of the site's page says so for 30 days. To put the site back on its domain, buy hosting again and connect the domain again.
